Digital Citizenship - Acronyms Source: http://www.cnn.com/2014/12/08/living/internet-acronyms-every-parent-should-know/index.html Do you know the texting acronyms that your child may be using while they’re texting? Yes, you may know LOL (laugh out loud) SMH (Shaking my head) or even TGIF (Thank goodness it is Friday). But, do you know what GNOC, LH6, or even IWSN means? Well, parents/guardians, we need to learn these acronyms because they are alarming. For example: GNOC means get naked on camera, LH6 means let’s have sex, or IWSN means I want sex now. Now, I honestly did not know what these acronyms were before I researched them. Plus, it is worryingly that these acronyms are popular all around the world and mostly used on social media sites/texting. Therefore, we need to stay up to date and understand the different slang that our children use for their safety. But understanding and knowing these acronyms can protect our students from dangerous behavior. All in all, lets stay up to date on the ‘slang’ or acronyms that our children use and keep open with our communication on these topics with them to keep them safe. The focal point is to surround the overall learning, creativity and technological aspects that will teach the children the curriculum in various methods. In essence, in my classroom, I will implement ways to enhance the students' abilities to think critically, think in diverse perspectives, analytically and creatively. As well as, to accommodate and adapt the curriculum to be best suitable for the students’ learning style/ capabilities. Plus, to incorporate connections to what they are learning to everyday life. Also, to focus on to have the students evaluate their thinking and understanding to further their knowledge. These values and expectations will benefit them when they get older and help mold them into proactive people. Now within today’s society, we use technology on a day to day basis. We use our phones, tablets, laptops, computers and even kindle fires. Therefore, in agreement with the high leverage website, within my classroom, we use technology on a daily basis. For example, at my current placement, we use the doc camera, google classroom, the smart board, and the students Chromebooks. Also, some of my students use technology as a form to communicate with their peers (verbally). Or they use their computers/tablets to type out their assignments to meet their physical capability/adaptation needs. For instance, one of my students has cerebral palsy and uses a laptop to type out his assignments because he does not have the fine motor skills to use a pencil. We do work with him on those fine motor skills. But in order to keep up with the workload [and by parental request], we have him use a laptop for the majority of his assignments. Furthermore, I personally will differentiate their educational curriculum with technology by using different forms of it (doc camera, smart board, google classroom… etc.) As well as, I will use this as another method to talk to my student's parents/guardians on the internet (email, twitter, Facebook, classroom blog/website). Moving on, based on my past placement and my current placement there are access restrictions on some websites online. So, if my classroom were to read the books Divergent or The Hunger Games, we may not be able to watch them online. However, at my current placement, my CT contacted the IT to lift the firewall for Netflix, so we can watch a movie of a book that the class has read. All in all, if there is a firewall of some sort I will either contact IT and/or buy the movie and bring in a hard copy to watch it. Now, I do not think I will ever teach at an Amish school; but I do have some students who do not have computers at home. But, thankfully at Grand Haven public schools all students have Chromebooks and are able to take them home to work on homework assignments. Also, if the child does not have Wi-Fi access then they are able to stay after school at the homework club from 4-6 pm and work on their homework. Plus, there is an after school bus that can take them home as well. Now, if my students did not have certain technology accesses (such as Chromebooks) I can make accommodations for them to work on their assignments in school by using the computer labs. Or we can take a class trip to the local KDL library and I can teach them how to get signed up and how to sign in. All in all, I will be able to adapt and make learning suitable for my students. Technology Environment/ Tool Reflection
I will use this form of integrated technology in my classroom for presenting different forms of curriculum. Linear presentations will increase the student engagement within my classroom. In addition, I can use it with a smart board to teach various of subjects and accommodating my students with various of disabilities. For instance, at my CI placement my students check in for the day by moving their name to the ‘present’ attendance side of the smart board. Also, we use the smart board to do the daily weather, the date, month and year. As well as, we use it as an interactive form to teach the daily lessons in math, social studies and sometimes science. So, my students will either use the smart board pen to solve problems or with their finger/by the computer with the mouse. All in all, I plan on using integrated technology and a linear presentation on a daily basis in my special education classroom. Technology Inventory Blog Post

Resources from the School’s Website: Online Resources
Blogs are new and inventive resources that we can utilize within our classrooms. As an educator, we can not only use it to post and comment on post. But, we can also can post information to parents, guardians, or other faculty. By consistently posting, it will keep students, parents/guardians, and faculty up to date on school events, due dates, big projects, school holiday-party days, and other school related information. In addition, my students will be able to communicate fluently through the internet. For instance, students can post discussions or written assignments to the blog and comment on their peers posts. Not only that, this gives children opportunities to give peers construction feedback on their peer's work. Plus, as a special education teacher I plan on having CBI (Community Based Instruction) . This means that my students will go out into the community and learn life/adaptive skills . These skills will better prepare them for their future! So, another positive way to use a blog is to post photos and videos to the blog for my students families and friends. All in all, blogs are easy, eco-friendly and a positive way to document my students educational experience. |
